Interviewer

As the interviewer, I felt comfortable asking questions but didn't come up with the most interesting ones. One mistake I had was that I didn't have Rebecca repeat the question I had asked. Something that came up after editing was that I should have added the B roll in between cuts.

As the DP,  in this circumstance it was easy. We all agreed on a spot and camera angle we all felt look good. I adjusted the lights to fix her best rolled the tape.

Being interviewed was cool, I'm not one to put myself in front of the camera. Answering the questions was fun especially because I had a funny story to tell.

Interviewing the second time I felt myself asking the same questions. This time I did have Emma repeat the question in her answer which set me up well for editing. Our camera I guess was on a weird setting and when I tried to upload it to Final Cut Pro it acted as if it were a Cell phone or photograph. But while editing this time I made sure to have all cuts covered by B roll.

Being the DP this time was pretty much the same. But Instead, this time we had a different spot set up before, and change it last minute. I think because of this we had a better outcome.

Interviewing this time I felt better being in front of the camera. I felt better but I fell I answered the questions worse. I look to keep improving in being in front of the camera.

Documentary Review

The FYRE Music Festival documentary made by Netflix called FYRE: The Party That Never Happened, was a very interesting documentary. This Documentary kept you interested by going from a crazy supermodel shoot, to sucking dick for water, to almost facing 20 years in prison. Billy McFarland, Entrapuer and Ja Rule, rapper  formed an app to schedule artist for private parties to be what they called “the uber of booking talent.” To advertise their company they came up with the idea to make a music festival in the Bahamas on a private island Norman’s Cay once owned by famous drug dealer Pablo Escobar. They produced this amazing ad with 10 of the top supermodels promoting an unbelievable experience to good to be true. This Influencer video was so good that they had sold out their 10,000 tickets on their first music festival. By then many of the team had known that this was not going to be what was expected and advised against pursuing before too late and was cut from the team. They were soon kicked off their island because they broke a previous agreement which led them to island hop until they reached Great Exuma. People had questions revolving flights and living situations that they were promised with tickets but had them left answered by the FYRE team. This left to a lot of criticism from people and they went into an investigation. Some people found that they were not getting what was promised but that went underlooked before the event. One of the most interesting parts of the documentary was when the 4 18 wheeler trucks filled with water for the event, but it had got held up at customs because they had needed money for it to pass through. Billy had asked Andy a member of the team that had join midway through but had worked with in the past to take one for the team. By this, he meant for Andy to be “our wonderful gay leader” and to suck the head of customs dick to clear the water through. Andy which agreed but when he arrived he was told he would release the water as long as the would be one of the first paid after. Days after ticket buyers were starting to arrive, and they soon saw what they were promised was not true. They were told whoever has a villa to grab a tent and it turned to a free for all. Guests made best for them but a third of the guest had arrived and all tents were full. The tweet that made everything made the disaster blow up was a picture of a messy cheese sandwich that they were severed. One of my favorite quotes was from a Conan late night show interview where he asked he felt bad for the people who spent money to go to the event. His response was “If you have thousands of dollars to go on a trip to see blink 182, that's on you that’s Darwinism at its finest.”  This event went really south when people found out Billy had lied to investors and had committed fraud. The FBI then joined the investigation had Billy was arrested facing 20 years in prison, but then eventually released on bail. This then screwed all the people that had worked for the event whether that be close friends, business partners, construction workers, or a small islands catering business. The films showed clips from the inside and clips from the actual shoot. All most all interviews were shot straight on or offset the slightest amount. This gave the documentary a very clean look. They obviously gave good thoughts on the background because it adds to it but doesn’t distract you in any way. Overall this was a very well put together film, which keeps you interested at all times.
